Imposing E-Challan in Gujarat

The fines and penalties for breaking traffic laws are designed to discourage negligence in road safety. It is an essential aspect of mitigating road accidents.

If you are caught breaking a traffic rule in Gujarat, you will be issued an e-challan. This e-challan has to be cleared within 60 days of being issued. In case the offender fails to clear the e-challan within the provided time frame, the challan is forwarded to the court.

To elaborate with an example, if you receive a no parking fine in Gujarat, the e-challan payment of ₹500 (for a first-time offence or ₹1,000 if it is a second offence) needs to be cleared within 60 days to avoid further penalties or worse, a summons from the court.

Visit any traffic police station in your city and carry the necessary documents. These include your driving licence, proof of address, ID proof, and a copy of the traffic violation challan. Then, you simply have to pay your fine in cash and get the receipt.

Look for a traffic police officer with a handheld e-challan payment device. Then, you can simply swipe your debit/credit card for a cashless payment option.

Importance of Having Valid Motor Insurance for Adhering to Traffic Rules in Gujarat

When driving or riding, you must ensure that you have all the necessary documents handy to avoid being fined. According to the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988, every individual must have valid third-party bike insurance. Not adhering to this rule is a punishable offence.

The insurance rule is more for the benefit of the rider/driver than anyone. Having an insurance policy for your bike ensures your savings are not dented in the unfortunate event of an accident. However, third-party bike insurance is only partial protection as it exclusively compensates for damages to third-party persons/property and does not cover damages to one's own vehicle.

So, to enhance your protection on the road, comprehensive insurance is essential. A comprehensive bike insurance policy covers damages to the third party as well as one’s own vehicle.

Acknowledging that individuals are oppressed for time, Tata AIG enables a smooth and hassle-free option of buying 2-wheeler insurance online. This makes it easier to compare different policies and also offers discounts on premiums.
